Music Therapy, Education, and Empowerment
Our Work
Our Work
Through Love 4 One AnotherⓇ, we harness the power of music, art, and technology to empower students in high-need classrooms. By providing musical instruments, music therapy interventions, and multimedia tools, we promote well-being and give kids the chance to strengthen their academics and have their voices heard.
Our GoodTech curriculum integrates digital literacy, civic engagement, social-emotional learning, the fostering of 21st leadership skills, and youth-driven social impact. Through GoodTech, students learn about art, music, and podcasting for social change, so they can have their voices heard and be changemakers in their communities. We are thrilled to partner with the FutureBoys & Girls program at Franklin Middle School in North Minneapolis to open the “IAPW Future Lab”, bringing access to music and technology to low-income schools. The FutureBoys & Girls have a deep history of empowering changemakers, and we are proud to amplify their impact. Creating social consciousness through creativity is a key pillar of what IAPW stands for, and this new lab fosters that spirit for these students. Thank you to Dave Hampton, Andre Cymone, Scottie P. & NPGUK for their contribution to this project.
The pandemic meant schools closed & those with little resources were focused to “make it work”. With arts & music programs already not seen as a priority, relief efforts often overlooked the teachers heading these important programs. We stepped in to support many art and music initiatives to keep kids engaged and to support their well-being during these trying times.
I’ve never seen anything like this! When I saw the new music room, my heart skipped a beat! I couldn’t believe that all of this was for us. It’s a big privilege to be able to get all this for all the hard work we do to make this school a better place. To be able to play this piano brings a lot of joy to my heart.
Love 4 One Another® was established by In a Perfect World to honor and build upon the philanthropic work between In a Perfect World founder, Manuela Testolini, and Prince Rogers Nelson.*
After Prince’s tragic passing, L4OA also became a vehicle through which Prince’s supporters could see the collective impact of their contributions to IAPW projects honoring Prince.
As of 2019, IAPW constructed three schools in rural Africa in honor of Prince. The first school was completed in October 2016 in the village of Ng’ozo in Southern Malawi, fulfilling a long-held desire of Prince’s to bring education to underserved communities. Inspired by the Purple Army & NPGUK, the second school was built in the village of Chimbwinda in December 2016. In October 2018, Manuela traveled back to Chimbwinda to break ground on In a Perfect World’s 30th school, this one funded by IAPW and Prince’s brother, Omarr Baker, with some additional support from NPGUK. Not only do these schools help to educate children in a safe and nurturing environment, but they also help build up the entire community where the schools are built. At home in the United States, our focus is inside the classroom, providing music education and therapy to students in need.
