Tranquil Teens

In a Perfect World

As Youth Ambassadors for IAPW, we want to turn Turn Empathy Into Action!

We see that teens in our community are dealing with a lot of stress and anxiety, but they don’t seem to know what to do to cope. We want them to know that there are things that they can do to alleviate stress that doesn’t cost a lot of money or take a lot of time.

So we created the #TranquilTeens awareness campaign. We want to focus on teens since we are teens, and we truly empathize.

Our Mission

We want to help “normalize” the discussion of mental health challenges, and to provide tips and solutions for teens to cope with stress and anxiety.

Quick Tips to deal with stress & anxiety

Find a moment to take some deep breaths. Taking deep, mindful breaths can immediately help to calm the body and mind.

Meditation frees your mind of internal chatter and self-doubt. Take a few moments every day to quiet the mind and center yourself.

Getting up close and personal to a tiny bug or beautiful flower is therapeutic. You know that old saying “Stop and smell the roses” … it is not limited to roses, other flowers work too! It’s also good to get fresh air since we spend so much of our time indoors.

Swap the screen for real-life connections with loved ones to boost your mood.

Chamomile tea acts as a mild sedative and can help to improve mood. It aids in relaxing the muscles and reducing irritability. These teas are also good for stress reduction –Peppermint, Lemon Balm, Basil, Rosemary, Passionflower, and St. John’s Wort tea.

When you’re feeling stressed, take a break to talk to a friend. A reassuring voice can help ease anxiety.

Journaling has been used for emotional release and stress relief for centuries. No matter your age or life situation, journaling is an outlet that gives you a different perspective on an issue.  Journaling reduces stress by helping to facilitate problem-solving.

Sleep – or lack thereof – plays a major factor in how teens react to stress. Sleep deprivation can exacerbate anxiety symptoms. So get to bed early and avoid sugar and caffeine before bed so you can have a restful sleep.

Essential oils can help you relax, reduce your heart rate and blood pressure, and lift your mood. They can be inhaled directly or added to a warm bath or diffuser. Oils for relaxation include Bergamot, Lavender, Clary Sage, Grapefruit and Ylang Ylang.

Did you know that kids who learn mindfulness techniques are better equipped to deal with stress as adults?
